Jackson
Hole, to borrow the Wyoming state motto, is "like no place on earth."
As part of the largest intact ecosystem in the lower 48 states, Jackson
Hole's spectacular scenery, pristine environment and proximity to Grand
Teton and Yellowstone National Parks make the perfect playground for some
of the best trout fly fishing, skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking,
camping, hiking, river rafting, and wildlife viewing in North America.
Rare Lands
This environment is destined to always stay this way. Less than 3% of
the land in Jackson Hole is privately owned. The remaining 97% is protected
as National Forests, BLM lands, the National Elk Refuge, Jackson Hole
Land Trust holdings and two National Parks. It's comforting to know that
the scenic corridors, abundant streams, rivers and wildlife will remain
protected throughout the future.
Geographically,
Jackson Hole is a valley surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges, the
most famous being the Grand Tetons. Our area also offers two world-class
golf and tennis resorts, a superb Summer Music Festival, Fall Arts Festival
sponsored by our 40-some galleries and museums, unique shops, along with
many cafes and restaurants, both rustic and refined. An array of non-profit
organizations also helps to build the strong community spirit that makes
Jackson Hole truly beautiful, further complementing all the wonders that
surround us.
The people who call Jackson Hole home are a rare breed. It's true, Jackson
Hole is the "Last and the Best of the Old West." But with the
spectrum of activities the valley has to offer, many who come to visit
wind up extending their vacations... sometimes indefinitely.
A Natural Playground
Jackson Hole is an enormous natural playground for both winter and summer
enthusiasts. Some of the most popular activities include:
Downhill Skiing - The downhill experience in Jackson can only
be described as inspiring. Choose from any of the three ski areas and
you surely will not be disappointed. Lessons are available from qualified professionals who will help fine tune your technique.
Back Country Skiing - Enjoy fresh unbroken powder, every run.
On these tours you can receive the workout of a lifetime and enjoy runs
that few individuals will see, much less ski during the course of the
winter.
Snowmobiling
- The ultimate winter activity for the adrenaline junky.
Heli-Skiing - The experience of a lifetime. If you are looking
for steep and deep, or 2,500 vertical feet of light, dry powder that isn't
quite as extreme, this is an untracked powder adventure for you.
Fly Fishing - These full and half day trips are designed for those
who wish to experience fishing on the Snake River for native Cutthroat
Trout. For the diehard fisher it is all that can be hoped for. For the
family it is a wonderful combination of fishing, sightseeing and wildlife
viewing.
Golf - enjoy a leisurely morning of golf with fantastic views
of the Teton Range to compliment your game. Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis, Teton Pines, 3 Creeks, Snake River Sporting Club and the nearly complete Shooting Star offer excellent course choices.
Mountain Climbing - The Teton Range is home to some of the best
climbing in North America. Guide services offer trips into the Tetons for all levels of ability, and for the beginner they offer several courses
in climbing and general mountaineering.
Mountain
Biking - There is a wide array of trails for mountain biking, including rolling forest and service roads to "white-knuckle" single track abound throughout
the surrounding national forest.
